ABOUT US

KATSUI was started by us. Kate & Sue Quinlan (sisters) in 1986. We come from an art school background in painting and sculpture. Over the years we have developed a bright, spontaneous design work that is fresh, fun and colourful, portraying Australian animals, wine and food themes, fish and faces in a variety of domestic contemporary textile items.

We SILKSCREEN each item by hand and then each piece is individually HANDPAINTED with brushes. Using wide colour combinations results in unique pieces. This reflects our fabulous Australian atmosphere.

The colours on this site are SAMPLES ONLY. Every piece is HANDPAINTED and therefore a different colour combination.

ALL WORK IS HEAT CURED AND COLOUR FAST
GENTLE WARM MACHINE WASH

At KATSUI we cut our own fabric.
We use high quality 100% cotton
and 100% linen

PRINTING

Each cut out piece of fabric is placed under a SILKSCREEN and HANDPRINTED with black ink only. They are then airdried on a rack ready for painting.
No modern mechanics here!!

PAINTING

After printing each item, it is now individually HANDPAINTED. This gives a bright unique finish. No two pieces are the same. We mix our own pigments to create an endless combination of colours. When dried, the painted fabric is heat cured to stabilize ink

We are a small cottage industry. We even work from a cottage. We work, talk, laugh and lunch together.
